Work and Play

P1000825
Sam, at work, helping Dad sweep up. He calls it the "boom," and he immediately asks for it as soon as we go outside. (Lest you be too impressed, he more often uses it for evil, such as bashing us in the shins.)

P1000819
Sam at play, dancing the cha-cha. "Has anybody seen my other maraca?" (Also, he sometimes uses his maracas for evil and bashes us in the head. He is into bashing. But that's OK, it helps me know I'm alive.)

Play Date with Harrison

The rain held off for the most part Saturday, so Sam and his buddy Harrison were able to get together for a play date at Harrison's pad. And, by play date, I mean that they played near each other, not exactly with each other. But we got a few good photos (thanks to Harrison's mom)! Also, we went to a neighbor's house to visit her chickens. Both boys were super excited, but I forgot to take my camera, so you'll just have to take my word for it. The visit ended with the surprisingly (to me) fun activity of throwing stones into a bird bath. Ah, boys.

Chopping Broccoli

Tuesday night, the heavens opened up, the vegetable angels flew, and Sam ate broccoli. A lot of it. With gusto. Since he hasn't eaten another vegetable other than peas for months now, this was a monumental event in our household. (Bet you can't wait 'till he starts using the potty...cuz you know it will be recorded and cheered.)

And there was much singing and rejoicing. To celebrate, I can't help but share the only broccoli-related song I know, featuring SNL's Dana Carvey.... You're welcome.

I And Love And You

My mother's day gift from Sam (Bruce) was perfect.

Did you know its Mother's Day?

Most everyday, Sam wakes up first thing in the morning and asks for "Mommy" - although he sounds a bit like an Englishman and it comes out "Mummy." In our house he gets his way about half the time. He doesn't usually begrudge the fact that he's got to put up with his father first thing in the morning, but he certainly doesn't get the same level of service that he does when Allison has morning duty.

She greets him with a smile and a hug and whisks him away to his morning breakfast. In no time flat the two of them are practically doing pirouettes down the hall and into the kitchen. I wish I were exaggerating, but the two of them together are a deadly combination. Whether its the morning rush or the afternoon day care grab and go, Sam and Allison are a tough team to beat.

Allison and I like to say we share 50/50 Sam duties, but I'm not so sure. She's the one who never forgets to give him his medicine. She's the one who calls the day care to let them know when we'll be late. She knows when to take him to the doctor. She always handles his meals. She makes sure he's got play dates. She's the chief photographer and editor of this blog. She lines up baby-sitters and dog sitters. She makes sure he's got sunscreen and a hat. She plans birthday parties and costumes for Halloween. She makes sure that we make time to go to the park and have fun. She makes our home a fun place.

All that is beautiful, fun, funny and charming, about Sam, comes from his mom.

For all those things and so much more, Sam and I want to say to Allison: Thank you and we love you!

All of His Eggs in One Basket. But Not Really.

Sam enjoyed his first Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday!

"That thing got a hemi?" Talking about the latest in stroller technology with one of the guys, before the hunt begins.

Dad shows Sam the ins and outs of egg hunting.

On the hunt. Without his basket. Baskets are for sissies.

"Isn't there supposed to be something INSIDE these eggs? I was told there'd be real chickens."

Sam is clutching as many eggs as he can, while his Dad tried to convince him to put them in the basket.

Still trying to figure out the concept of the basket.

Eating his egg. No, it's not edible.
