Breaking News
Sam has now been asleep for an hour and 15 minutes. This is unprecedented in the history of napping, people. Is it the dawn of a new day? A new day in which I have an uninterrupted stretch of time during which I can do such things as shower? Catch up on work? Blog? This remains to be seen. Currently I'm just wasting the time by walking up and down the hall to his room to check on him, all the while singing (quietly) and doing jazz hands.

LIVE! with Sam...
A little guilty pleasure I've adopted while on maternity leave? "LIVE! with Regis and Kelly."
I especially appreciate their emphasis on the word "LIVE!" It's a cheery and optimistic start to my typical bleary mornings. I shall heretofore use a ton of caps and exclamation points in my blogging!
And, seriously, could Kelly be any cuter? And those guns....
Anyway, "LIVE!" is having their annual Gerber Beautiful Baby contest. And of course SAM! insists on entering. He's less interested in the grand prize ($125K college fund and a trip to "LIVE!") than he is the semifinalist prizes...a lifetime supply of BABYFOOD!
We're pretty terrible photographers, and Sam has the habit of looking like a spotlit deer in his photos, but here are a few we are considering entering. Please VOTE! Just leave a comment with your favorite photo. The photo with the most votes will be submitted. Don't deny SAM! his lifetime supply of babyfood. He's a hungry boy.

Morning baby
Turns out Sam is a morning baby. Maybe all babies are morning babies, I don't know. But I know this one is, and I like to think he's special. I know one special thing about him, and that's his uncanny ability to turn his father into a morning person. The closest to chipper I've ever seen Bruce in the waking dawn is before a race (no kidding). My early a.m. chipperness goes largely ignored, at best, or, more typically, spawns confused and/or annoyed grimaces.
But, these days when 6 a.m. rolls around, Sam is up, grinning and chattering (his new favorite word is "Myrrh," we think from the SNL Christmas skit he saw the other night), and Bruce is not only happily awake but coherent and mildly responsive.
Six months ago, if I'd been walking around grinning like an idiot and shouting "Myrrh" (seriously, that baby is shouting) at 6 a.m., I may have received more than a few cross words from Bruce. Now, he's all like, "Myrrh! Of course! This baby is delightful!" Which, he is. But still.
