Morning baby

Turns out Sam is a morning baby. Maybe all babies are morning babies, I don't know. But I know this one is, and I like to think he's special. I know one special thing about him, and that's his uncanny ability to turn his father into a morning person. The closest to chipper I've ever seen Bruce in the waking dawn is before a race (no kidding). My early a.m. chipperness goes largely ignored, at best, or, more typically, spawns confused and/or annoyed grimaces.

But, these days when 6 a.m. rolls around, Sam is up, grinning and chattering (his new favorite word is "Myrrh," we think from the SNL Christmas skit he saw the other night), and Bruce is not only happily awake but coherent and mildly responsive.

Six months ago, if I'd been walking around grinning like an idiot and shouting "Myrrh" (seriously, that baby is shouting) at 6 a.m., I may have received more than a few cross words from Bruce. Now, he's all like, "Myrrh! Of course! This baby is delightful!" Which, he is. But still.

Tummy Time

Apparently we're a little late at four weeks to start Sam on what the experts call "Tummy Time." He's already rubbed a bald spot on the back of the head from all the lazing about on his back he's been doing. So, this week we rolled out the play mat, put him on his belly, and tried to encourage him to lift his head, no small feat when your head is as big as his. But we're sure he'll have super strong neck muscles in no time.

Month One Highlights Pt. Two

Ready for an autumn stroll.
Napping with Dad (notice you see no shots of me...is it because I'm not napping or because Bruce never takes pictures? you be the judge).

Check out the matching onesie and socks. Fancy.
Lounging in the sunroom.
