Peanut is in season

Samuel Reid Warrington, aka "Peanut", arrived early Tuesday morning at 2:50 AM, September 22. He weighed in at 7 lbs and was 21 inches long.

Allison woke up on Monday morning feeling very bad and running a fever. The doc suggested we come in and she was admitted at about 8 AM after the temperature was confirmed to be over 100 degrees and when Samuel showed signs of distress. Labor was later induced and, after cycling thru nurses faster than little Sam goes thru diapers, nurse Lauren and Dr. Clark took over.

September 22 marks the first day of fall and, as several nurses reminded us, the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Hugo.

Peanut's new ride

Peanut's room

Putting away stores

Bruce and I have never exactly played the role of the ants versus the grasshoppers, of Aesop Fable fame.

In fact, Bruce has been known to break into a sweat at the very site of a 24-roll of anything, and he gets visibly nervous in Costco. But they say having a baby changes everything, right?

So, I've tried to do some freezer cooking to prepare for the crazy days/weeks after Peanut gets here.

Here's Bruce trying to make room in the freezer.
Poor Bruce.

These are tasty protein bars, from Mollie Katzen's Sunlight Cafe. You should try making them.

Yes, those are chocolate chips you see.

Here I am making Mark Bittman's spinach lasagna from the green cookbook.

The finished product.

My rapt audience. Marley loves pasta.
And tomatoes.
And cheese....

In Peanut's closet

I tried to tell Allison that these are too small for me. I was looking forward to wearing the footie pajamas with footballs this fall.

34 weeks

This was taken last week at 34 weeks. I'm getting to that dreaded point where there are fewer and fewer items of clothing that fit. And the swelling has started, most noticeably here in my face. I'm entering what I like to refer to as my "moon face" period. I'm not complainin', just sayin'.

Baby showering

Generous folks from all over the southeast (or so it seemed) gathered on Saturday to help gear Peanut up to make his entrance into the world. Bruce and I are blown away by the generosity! I'm fairly certain the baby won't need anything else until he heads to college. At which point we'll be sure and invite everyone back for another party.

Like I said, all set 'till college.

The finest in baby formalwear.

The riveted crowd.

Carol's baby, Nate, stole the show.

Me, and the shower hosts.

The cake, from Dewey's. It's all about the cake.
